I’m not a coeliac. So why am I writing about gluten free? For a few reasons.
I’m not a coeliac, but one of my best friends is. And I’ve seen the difficulties in eating out when you’re a coeliac – the research required before hand to find a suitable restaurant, the menu analysis, the pre-contact with the restaurant to check what is actually gluten free to try and decipher whether they actually know what gluten free really is, the checking with the waiters (who display varying levels of confidence on their understanding of what a coeliac is), the checking with the chefs…oh I’m exhausted just writing this!
I’ve also experienced the difficulties deciphering ingredients in packets and cooking gluten free – who knew that so many common cooking ingredients can contain gluten? Tell me why you would need to put gluten into something like icing sugar?!
I moved to eating gluten free about a year ago after going on a “clean” detox for a few weeks and feeling a lot better for it.
My version of eating gluten free is clean eating, avoiding processed foods as much as possible, and eating like our grandparents used to eat – as natural as possible. There’s so much that is naturally gluten free that we can sometimes forget in this world of processed food, so Gluten Shmooten and all the recipes and products featured are here to try and make gluten free eating easier for everyone – coeliacs and non coeliacs alike.
Happy eating!
