Dinner at Hooked (Brunswick St, Fitzroy) was a delicious “gourmet” fish and chip experience – everything cooked to perfection and accompanied by a healthy salad.

(Followed up with lunch at their Windsor restaurant and was disappointed at the quality of the meal. Perhaps we caught them on a bed day?)

I am super jealous about the range you have in Melbourne! I’m really struggling in London. I’ve found one place that I’m off to try in a week or two – The Mermaid’s Tail.

Will have to head to the southern hemisphere soon!

Does anyone know of a gluten free fish and chip shop in Brisbane anywhere? When I’ve contacted restaurants that state they have GF fish and chips, it’s only the fish (grilled) that is an option – no chips! Help!!

      Hi CelesteM
Cousins took me to a great fish and chip place at Redcliff. It had a name like Mullins or Mulligans. Something like that. That was October 22007. At the time I was told they use only rice flour.

Cairns – There ianother great place called Fusion but not sure if they have fish and chips on the menu.

Sydney – tTry the Glenelg Diner. Chickpea floured prawn cutlets! Take your own bread though, on get told off by the owner, a bit of a Basil Fawlty, in the nicest possible way though.

Geelong????? A waitress in a Cairns restaurant said that there is a GF restaurant in Geelong. Anyone know that one??????????

Dying for F7C right now so may chance the one in Windsor, despite “bad day” report.

Tried out Peters Fish & Chips in Frankston tonight, very disappointed! Only the fish can be done GF, no chips.
The fish was nice, but this gal can’t live by fish alone. 🙁

There was a pizza place next door that advertised GF conspicuously. Next time we are going through, I will try them instead.

Never mind that they’re Gluten Free, but Captain Gummy’s at 24/240A Dorset Road, Boronia VIC have the BEST fish & chips I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting!! They are actually an award winning Fish & Chip store, run by a dedicated & caring family who put a lot of love into all their food…apparently they spent a long time perfecting they’re G/F batter (which is also dairy free) to get it just right & it shows! Also no cross contamination issues here, separate fryers of course.
They have a full G/F menu including Hamburgers, Steak Sandwiches, Potato Cakes, Dim Sims, Fish, Chips etc…
    All absolutely belissimo!!

Hi everyone, my name is Faye and I am part owner of a new gluten free fish shop in Ivanhoe .We have been open for about 4 months, and do only gluten free fish and chips. All our fish and seafood is sourced locally and cut on premises, we do not sell any imported seafood. We also make our own gluten free potato cakes, salads, salad dressing, and homemade tartare. We have tried very hard to make our product taste like regular fish and chips, we think it tastes even better. Our batter is paper thin and crispy ,come down and try us and you be the judge.

Peters Fish and chips 55 Foot St, Frankston is NOT GLUTEN FREE. The only thing they can do is grilled fish (which any fish and chip shop can do). It may be wise to remove them from the list as page is dedicated to gluten free fish and chips which they are not.

I too recommend Seaview Fish and Chips in Balcombe Road, Beaumaris. They do gluten free fish and chips every day except for Fridays and they are closed on Mondays. They have separate vats for frying gf foods in and gf batter for fish plus extras such as gluten free potato cakes.

Great list compiled here. Have tried Boardwalk in Tooradin and can recommend. Love that they have Pumpkin cakes and use Rice Bran oil! Used to sometimes go to Fish Galore in Wantirna but since they changed hands doesn’t agree with my tummy anymore. Would love to see phone numbers included here.

Their gluten free potato cakes are to die for too. Fish and chips, calamari, very similar to hooked menu. Their gluten free batter on the fish and potato cakes are better than Hooked.
