Once you get through the interestingly commentated menu, you’ll discover a good range of gluten free options including goulash, other meat dishes, soups, veggie dishes and even some dessert options.

Suggest booking if you want to head here on the weekend as they do get pretty busy and it’s quite a small setup.

Salsa’s is a Mexican takeaway that has been around for a while now, but has just launched a new menu and now marks what is gluten free. Gluten free options include nachos, tacos, chips and bowls (a deconstructed burrito).

They have lots of locations all around Melbourne, generally in shopping centres.

What to do with too much easter chocolate? Make come easter chocolate leftover cookies…!

Ingredients:

1/3 cup coconut oil, room temperature (soft but not liquid) (Substitute for butter if you like)
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1 cup (4 ounces) gluten free flour
3/4 cup (3 ounces) almond meal
2 teaspoons corn starch
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chocolate chips or left over easter chocolate

Method:

Prepare two cookie sheets with baking paper. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees.
Either by hand with a wooden spoon, or using an electric mixer, combine the coconut oil (or butter) and brown sugar. Mix until combined. The mixture will still be lumpy.
Add the egg, vanilla. Mix again.
Add the flour, almond meal, corn starch, baking soda and salt. Mix until completely combined.
Add the chocolate.
Scoop 1 tablespoon on prepared cookie sheet. I only put about 9 cookies per sheet. They will spread.
Bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are golden. Let cool.
Eat with a hot cup of tea!

This is the perfect place to stop off at from your bike ride for some breaky…or even if no bike ride involved, the perfect place for a bite.

I think I may have gone on a bad day, because there was really nothing amazing here. In fact, I was disappointed.

The venue is very casual, quick dining – in, eat, pay, out. They have an interesting ordering system where you order off iPads. The menu looks good, there is a gluten free section split out, although it’s pretty small.

The good looking menu is where the good part stopped. The food was brought out about 30 seconds after ordering, so was clearly just sitting around and not prepared fresh. For appetisers we had some edename which were wilted. For mainI had a salmon steak that was dry and looked like it had been cooked hours ago. Bit of rice on the side (that was dry around the edges, so probably prepared hours ago and just popped in the microwave to serve) and a bit of salad. A complete disappointment when I was looking forward to beautiful, fresh Japanese food.

Picking up take away regularly can get a bit on the pricey side, and leans towards not being terribly healthy, so I’ve started keeping a few healthy meals in the fridge or freezer to have a back up dinner ready.

A new one I’ve recently tried is a Pitango curry. So easy and quick to just heat up and eat.

They have a good range of gluten free soups, curries and risottos and are available from Coles, Woolworths, IGA, Leo’s Supermarket and some delis.

Platform 28 is in a good part of the Docklands – just across the walkway from Spencer Street Station – and is housed in a former railway goods shed, so a lovely old meets new building.

There is a bit of everything – bit of pub, bit of bar, bit of outdoor space – and is usually packed out with office lunches and after work drinks during the week.

The menu has a few gluten free options – but not many – the usual steaks, salads, seafood, and one GF dessert option.

A nice atmosphere, nice food, although a bit on the pricey side but you do get that at the docklands anyway.

There are a few cake shops on Acland street that have some gluten free sweets options, one of them is Europa Cake Shop. There’s not a huge variety, but they do have a large selection of gluten free macaroons and some gluten free cakes to choose from.

It’s right on Barkly street, so not a quiet venue. The food is nice, servings are generous, but the prices feel just that little bit too expensive for what you’re getting.
