The Age’s Melbourne Gluten Free List

The Age recently published a list of gluten free eateries in Melbourne – click here to see the article…below I’ve listed their list but expanded on it a little for the places I’ve tried. Those I haven’t tried are on my list now! Have you tried any of the below places? What did you think? Leave a comment, and if you’re interested in submitting a guest review just email me at...

Spiga, Melbourne

Spiga is in the “laneways” section of Melbourne Central – kind of indoors, kind of outdoors. Nice atmosphere, good service, food was ok. Yes, just ok. Not an amazingly extensive menu with pastas, pizzas, salads, risottos and meat dishes (gluten free available for all) but enough choice to suit most people. The meals sounded a lot more interesting on the menu than what they actually ended up...

Pizza Meine Liebe, Northcote

Pizza Meine Liebe…German pizza? It’s just a German name that means “pizza my love”, the actual pizzas are very modern Italian. Located on High St in Northcote in a converted old house, this is a casual place to have a nice dinner with friends, they also do take away. Out the back there is a beautiful courtyard garden area with a few tables, if you’re going for dinner on a nice summer’s...

Caffe Si, Caulfield North

My friends and I often joke that they way things are going with gluten free food now getting increasingly popular, maybe one day people will walk into a restaurant and have to ask “do you have any gluten?” Well Caffe Si is already one of those eateries – everything is gluten free, no gluten here. This is a small cafe in a local strip of shops in Caulfield North with coffee, cakes, sandwiches...

Pizza Capers

Gourmet pizza places seem to be all the rage in the past few years, popping up all over the place…Pizza Capers is a new-ish one to Victoria, with 4 locations so far. I went to the Malvern shop, which is take away only, no dine in options. There is a huge menu to choose from, with a small range of traditional pizzas and a large range of gourmet pizzas. They also do kids pizzas, salads, seafood pizzas, breads...

Gelatissimo, Carlton

What better place to review on an almost 40 degree Melbourne day than a gelateria? Gelatissimo is in Lygon St, Carlton (currently their only location in Victoria, hopefully more will be popping up soon though) near the corner of Grattan St. The best part? Half of their flavours (all the sorbets) are gluten free, including my personal favourite, Blood Orange….yummmm. Other sorbet flavours include Green...

Boost Juice

OK everyone knows Boost Juice, if you don’t you need to get out more! For anyone not sure of what they can / can’t have they have detailed allergy information for all of their juices, smoothies and soups, including what is / is not gluten free. You can pick up a booklet in store or click here to download from their website. My personal favourite is the Strawberry Squeeze smoothie VN:F [1.9.1_1087] What...

Rice ‘n Rolls, Melbourne

Rice ‘n Rolls is a Thai rice and noodle bar with 2 locations in Melbourne’s CBD – 33 Degraves St and 181 William St (CBW Building). I’ve only been to the William St one but every time I’ve been there has always been a massive queue, which is usually a sign that it’s pretty good! And it is pretty good food – they have a huge range of curry, noodle and rice dishes that...

Crown Pizza, Reservoir

Crown Pizza is one of the original gluten free pizza places in Melbourne. You can select pretty much any pizza from their standard and gourmet pizza range (minus anything with ham, salami or BBQ sauce), just ask for it to be gluten free. Gluten free pizzas can only be made in a medium size and are an additional $4.50. Staff are very knowledgable, service is fast and friendly and the pizzas taste great…what...

Noodle Box

A Noodle Box has opened up near my place…finally…and although there are only 2 gluten free options, in my opinion they are the 2 best dishes on the menu anyway – Seafood Nasi Goreng and Chicken Pad Thai. Yum and yum! Quick, easy and good value for money, I’m a Noodle Box fan. For a list of locations go to their website Rating: VN:F [1.9.1_1087] What do you think? Rate this! please...
