Bobby’s Bistro, Chadstone

Bobby’s Bistro is in the Matthew Flinders Tavern, a pub / pokies complex near Chadstone Shopping Centre (about 5 minutes drive away). It’s very much a bistro setting with big cafeteria style tables, where you order and pay at one counter then pick up at another counter. They have a good range of gluten free options on the menu including a few salads, risotto, meat & veg pub style dishes. They...

The Age’s Melbourne Gluten Free List

The Age recently published a list of gluten free eateries in Melbourne – click here to see the article…below I’ve listed their list but expanded on it a little for the places I’ve tried. Those I haven’t tried are on my list now! Have you tried any of the below places? What did you think? Leave a comment, and if you’re interested in submitting a guest review just email me at...

The Little Hungarian Restaurant, Caulfield South

There are only 3 Hungarian restaurants in Melbourne, now I have tried 2 of them – Budapest and The Little Hungarian Restaurant. The Little Hungarian is now my favourite – it’s a very small restaurant, only seats about 30 people at a maximum, and is very homely – feels like you’re in someone’s dining room. The last page of the menu book outlines gluten free options –...

Gurkha’s, Prahran & Brunswick

It’s always surprised me that there are not more gluten free Indian / Sri Lankan types of restaurants given a lot of this cuisine is gluten free – a curry made from scratch rarely contains gluten. Gurkha’s is not Indian, it’s Nepalese, but it does have a few curry options. I’d never eaten Nepalese food before coming here and was very impressed – very interesting flavours....

Noodle Box

A Noodle Box has opened up near my place…finally…and although there are only 2 gluten free options, in my opinion they are the 2 best dishes on the menu anyway – Seafood Nasi Goreng and Chicken Pad Thai. Yum and yum! Quick, easy and good value for money, I’m a Noodle Box fan. For a list of locations go to their website Rating: VN:F [1.9.1_1087] What do you think? Rate this! please...

Eden Espresso, Malvern

This weekend my other half and I were lamenting how we never do brunch anymore…so we went to Eden Espresso on Sunday – the perfect place for a relaxed brunch. It’s a little cafe on Glenferrie Rd, a few doors down from Cerone’s, that looks like a converted house – nice big dining area at the front, middle has a smaller dining room and at the back there’s a really cute courtyard...

Borsch, Vodka & Tears, Windsor

I’ve always wanted to check this place out…finally this weekend I did. It’s on the Windsor end of Chapel St, right next door to Pizza Piazza. It’s a small, rustic, romantic Polish retro cafe / restaurant / bar that has amazing, authentic food that is also really good value. A lot on their menu is gluten free (ask for a specific gluten free menu) like soups, meat dishes, salads. The staff...

Grill’d

If you have not tried Grill’d burgers yet you’re missing out…they are freshly made healthy burgers – a great alternative to fast food burgers, the chips are also nice and chunky. I have not yet tried a huge variety of burgers, every time I seem to choose the same burger because I love it so much – the Mustard & Pickled burger! And they now have gluten free buns! Grill’d...

Cerone’s, Malvern

A nice casual little cafe / restaurant in Glenferrie Rd, Malvern. I’ve had (and heard of other people who have had) some bad experiences with the service here in the past, but gave it another go this weekend. The service was better but still nowhere even close to being great. The food is ok – they have a small range of gluten free options – risottos, pasta (fettucine) and occasionaly some gluten...

Pizza Piazza – Prahran

This place is a bit of a Melbourne gluten free institution – it’s one of the only places where you can get a large range of gluten free pizza, garlic bread, pasta. They claim to have the biggest gluten free menu in Melbourne and they are probably right. One of the owners is Coeliac so there’s some reassurance that they know what they are doing. Whilst the food is not the most amazing, it’s good...
